LA OROYA Series (2017-2018)

This trio of prints and printed sculpture uses both personal and found imagery in the construction of whimsical, fantastical spaces that confuse personal and estranged narratives. La Oroya, Yauli, Peru is the birthplace of my father and from my first travel there I was able to witness the life of this small town situated at high elevation in the Andean mountains. The compositions deliberately contradict realistic representations in order to falsify depictions of La Oroya, pointing to themes of strange and misplaced nostalgia.
